Dr. Rafael S. Garcia-Cortes is a Puerto Rican bilingual fiction writer, transplant cardiologist, and electrical engineer. His work lives at the crossroads of science and storytelling.
His debut novel, Catharsis, tells the story of a burned-out physician who receives a mysterious letter that reads: “You have one year to live.” Originally written in Spanish and now also available in English, the novel blends speculative fiction, magical realism, and medical themes—set against the vivid backdrop of Puerto Rico.
His unpublished English-language debut, The MicroUniverse, explores alternate realities, generational memory, and the search for meaning through the lens of speculative fiction and magical realism.
He currently lives in the Indianapolis area with his family.
